Fr. Thomas Chrysostom McVey OP– 1933-2009

30 June 2009 (Santa Sabina-Rome) - Yesterday, June 29th 2009, fr. Thomas Chrysostom McVey OP, from the Province of Saint Joseph, USA, passed away victim of a sudden massive heart attack. 

Fr. Chrys was born November 8, 1933. He made his first profession on August 16, 1954 and was ordained priest on June 16, 1960.  Most of his apostolic life unfolded in the mission of his Province in Pakistan until he was called to be part of the Order’s General Council as Socius for the Master of the Order for Apostolic Life.  He was an enthusiastic supporter of the implementation of new missions and inter-religious dialogue. He was going to participate in the « Journées Romaines » that will be held in Rome next August as a member of the Order’s Commission for Inter-religious Dialogue.  He was also a member of the Permanent Commission for the Promotion of Studies in the Order and a great promoter of the Preaching Commission of the Order. Fr. Chrys was very active; he traveled frequently and was always in good spirits for all work.  In October 2008, after finishing his time as Socius for Apostolic Life, he returned to the United States. Assigned to the Saint Joseph–in–the-Village community in New York, he was very happy with his new place of mission. May he rest in peace.
